Beelzebub adalah anime komedi action yang bercerita tentang kehidupan preman sekolah bernama Oga Tatsumi dengan bayi yang berasal dari alam lain. Bayi tersebut memiliki nama Kaiser de Emperana Beelzebub IV dan merupakan pewaris Raja Iblis. Bertemunya Oga dan bayi itu membuatnya dapat memakai kekuatan iblis dari Segel Raja di tangannya yang tercipta melalui ikatan mereka berdua.

SMA Ishiyama merupakan sekolah paling buruk yang dipenuhi para anak nakal dan berandalan, dimana Oga Tatsumi dan sahabatnya Furuichi bersekolah. Meski baru kelas 1, Oga dengan cepat dikenal sebagai petarung paling kejam di sekolah itu karena kekuatan yang dimilikinya. Suatu hari ketika Oga tengah mencuci di pinggir sungai, ia melihat pria tua berbadan besar mengapung.

Oga yang penasaran menarik orang tersebut ke pantai, tanpa di duga badan pria ini terbelah dua dan dari dalam keluar seorang bayi. Bayi itu kemudian merangkak ke punggung Oga dan tak mau lepas sejak saat itu. Hilda, pelayan iblis, menjelaskan kepada Oga bahwa dirinya telah terpilih menjadi pengasuh dari putra Raja Iblis, dengan tujuan untuk menghancurkan bumi dan umat manusia.
